The 10th and 12th board exams are fast approaching. For most students exams always cause stress which is natural and to a certain extent very helpful as it can motivate them to study. The problem arises when the stress levels increase to the extent of hampering their study process.
This year, in particular, might cause extra stress for some as the school day has been far from typical since the onset of the pandemic. We cannot do much to change this but we can do a lot about how we study and how we manage our stress. I am going to share a few tips that have helped me immensely during my school days and are still applicable in the current climate.
During study time, strategies that help are using:
- A mind map – A diagram where information is represented with pictures, usually with a central idea placed in the middle and related ideas arranged around it, a lot like a spider web.
- A time table – Essential to ensure enough time is allocated for each subject depending on the difficulty level.
- Mnemonics – Such as chunking and first letter technique are great ways to remember information.
Don’t forget to revise all your matter before the exams.
Remember to do something relaxing everyday to keep the stress away:
- Take regular breaks – A one minute jog on the spot or a full body stretch is a must throughout study – depending on the students age short breaks can be taken every 25 or 45 minutes.
- Music – Listening and dancing to your favourite music during your break is a fun way to help you relax and stay focussed.
- Exercise – Yoga, swimming or going for a short walk or a run to clear your mind and improve your focus.
- Sleep! – Get to bed ontime – 8 hours of sleep is key. Taking a power nap of 15 mins in between your study hours will also rejuvenate you.
- Talk – Call dont text. Talking to your favourite person for a few minutes will make you feel connected to the world outside.
These things all helped me get through the pre exam blues and ensured I was prepared to do my best.
