Sethu Child Protection Policy

Sethu works completely on the principle of ’the best interest of the child first’. At our centre we live, breath and ensure this with best practises in place, ensuring we stay on the pulse of the latest thinking.

According to the United Nation Convention of Child Rights, all children have the right to be protected from harm. From 2015 - 2017, two of Sethu’s senior professionals commenced an intensive 3 module, training program in Coimbatore. We learnt so much from this training which resulted in the foundation for our current Sethu Child Protection Policy (SCPP).

A necessity for Sethu is creating a two way trust with the gaurdians of the children we serve and the carers we train.  We need to ensure the best protection we can whenever children are entrusted to our care, this is mirrored in our policy.  Our SCPP primarily focuses on keeping all children under Sethu’s care safe and adheres with the 16th goal of the United Nations sustainable development goals.

The SCPP consists of preventive strategies and proactive procedures to ensure the safety of all children under Sethu’s care. It gives clear guidelines to both our staff and professionals working at Sethu in how we can best create a safe space for all the children who visit our premises and also when we interact with children out in the field. This ultimately reassures parents, guardians and teachers how seriously we care about the safety and well being of the children entrusted to us.

As an organisation now trained extensively on how to develop and institutionalise one’s own CPP. We are now well placed to extend our expertise and support to other organisations working with children that would like to develop their own policy. This is in line with our stragic plan and our civic duty  it is  key to ensure, where we can and are able that all children are safe,  staff are trained and protected at all times while in the presence of children entrusted into their care.
