New Year at the Govt primary school where I teach English every week – we did a class on New Year Resolutions and the children were encouraged to talk about what they wanted to do. After discussing it orally, I wrote their responses on the board, emphasizing the connections between what we say (sounds in words) and how it looks when written (letters in words). We read out the sentences together. Such wondrous and noble sentiments must be preserved for posterity, so the children drew their resolutions and those who could write, added a sentence. The result – a touching and heart-warming record of their simple, close-to-home aspirations for the year, which included actions like helping their parents, cleaning the house, filling water and watering plants, studying hard, keeping things neatly and so on. A child’s labor, filled with love…..
