A few days back I met Sapna who is having a lot of difficulty with reading, writing and spelling. She is a smart child who helps her mother in the household chores and takes care of her younger siblings. The school identified that the child was struggling and informed the parents to get her assessed for her learning difficulties. At Sethu, Sapna’s psychoeducational testing revealed that she is a child with above average intelligence with a Specific Learning Disability. Information provided by the school was very valuable in making a diagnosis.
As soon as the assessment was complete, we got in touch with her school informing them about these results. It is to the school’s credit that they immediately called Sapna’s parents and asked her to start attending classes. It is heartening to know that the school accepted Sapna and her disability and is willing to help her. When parents and school authorities trust, collaborate with and support each other, the child can only be benefited.
