Learning can become exhausting for children, especially when they have difficulty paying and sustaining attention for long durations. Keeping on track to complete a non-preferred activity is particularly hard for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and quickly leads to mental fatigue and frustration.

When children spend 30-60 minutes a day doing medium to intensive exercise and activities that need to focus on body movements, such as cycling, swimming or dance, it helps improve their brain’s ability to concentrate and enhances learning. Even just 20 minutes outdoors at the park helps to calm ADHD kids and help them to concentrate better.

In addition to making sure your child gets their daily dose of 30-60 minutes of physical exercise, here are 5 ways that one can help keep children sitting and focused for longer whether that be during school, homework or dinner time.

1. Use of Visual Timers 2. Brain breaks or Movement Breaks
3. Use of Fidget Toys
4. Flexible Seating – Yoga Ball
5. Appropriate Table and Chair
