Play is one of the most important ‘jobs of childhood’, as a result, play forms the most integral part of Occupational Therapy (OT) sessions at Sethu Centre.
Mahera Kantawalla, our Occupational Therapist believes that therapy should be fun because kids learn best when they are engaged and enjoying what they do. Through play-based activities, she addresses a variety of areas of deficits including fine motor skills, gross motor skills, handwriting
skills, social-emotional skills and sensory integration. Each of Mahera’s occupational therapy sessions is individualised to meet the child’s specific needs. Sessions are facilitated in a warm and comfortable environment, and created to reflect the child’s interests.
Mahera is passionate about helping children reach their potential while encouraging, educating, and empowering the adults in their lives. One of the many aspects that she loves about her job is the ‘variety in the midst of the routine’. She could be spending the morning working on feeding issues with a kid with ‘Down Syndrome’, then assisting a child with ‘Cerebral Palsy’ followed by working on ‘Sensory Integration’ with a child with autism and then end the day working on handwriting skills with a youngster with a ‘Genetic Disorder’.
By adding FUN to function, OT is far from boring at Sethu!!
